A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows someone (the donor) to appoint another person (the attorney) to make decisions on their behalf if they lose mental capacity.

Legal Reference:

Established under the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Two types exist: one for property and financial affairs, and one for health and welfare. LPAs must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian before use.
