The Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 allows certain people to apply for financial provision from an estate if a will or intestacy does not make reasonable provision for them.

Legal Reference:

Applies in England and Wales where a will excludes or inadequately provides for a dependant.
Eligible applicants include spouses, civil partners, children, cohabiting partners, and those financially supported by the deceased.
Claims must be brought within six months of the grant of probate or letters of administration.
