Deputyship

Deputyship is a legal appointment made by the Court of Protection when someone loses mental capacity and has not made a Lasting Power of Attorney.
A deputy makes decisions on behalf of the individual in areas such as finances or personal welfare. Deputies are supervised by the Office of the Public Guardian.

Legal Reference:

Established by the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and governed by the Court of Protection Rules 2017.
