An attorney is a person legally appointed to act on behalf of another under a power of attorney.
In the context of estate planning, attorneys are granted authority by the donor through a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) or a historic Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA). They must act in the donor’s best interests, within the scope of authority given, and in accordance with legal duties. Attorneys can make decisions about property, financial affairs, or health and welfare, depending on the type of power granted.
